Police cordoned off Knaresborough High Street at around 6pm this evening following a robbery at a cash machine - just hours after residents celebrated the Tour de Yorkshire riders passing through.

Officers have yet to confirm details, however local reports claim a person was robbed at a cash machine, before the suspects drove off, crashed into a police van and then sped away.

Police helicopters scoured the area and officers and police dogs searched on foot for the offenders. The getaway vehicle is believed to have been recovered at Calcutt.

The High Street reopened at around 8.30pm.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "An incident occurred on Knaresborough High Street at around 6pm tonight. Any witnesses please ring 101 and quote incident 400."

Officers are are also urging anyone who filmed the incident to get in touch.
