A HARROGATE man is facing trial by a judge and jury after police seized a computer and uncovered 1,473 indecent images of children and 21 indecent videos, also featuring children.

John Kyle Gibson, 48, of Stonefall Avenue, Harrogate, appeared before the town’s magistrates last Thursday accused of 17 offences.

Sixteen claim the making of an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child, ranging in age from one to 12, with some also featuring an adult male. The seventeenth charge alleges possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children. All offences are said to have been committed between March 2006 and July 2007 at his home.

Prosecutor Sam Rogers told court chairman Andrea Seddon it was the Crown’s contention that the case – involving images at all five levels on a scale of indecency – was too serious to remain in magistrates’ jurisdiction.

Mrs Seddon agreed and bailed Gibson, who did not enter any pleas, until March 10 when the case is expected to be sent for trial at York Crown Court.
