Detectives investigating a sexual assault in the Jennyfields area of Harrogate have arrested a local man in connection with the incident.
The man, aged 50, was arrested in Harrogate on Saturday, October 18, and has been released on conditional police bail following questioning, to allow for further enquiries.
Officers say they have been offering the victim continued specialist support since the incident, which happened on Tuesday, October 14.
Despite the man’s arrest, they say, the investigation remains ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to the police, to come forward.
Det Insp Nichola Holden, of Harrogate CID, said: “Enquiries into this serious incident are very much ongoing, however I would like to reassure local residents that we have made significant progress this week.
“In addition, regular patrols will continue in the Jennyfields area to provide extra reassurance to the public.
“We are still seeking information about this incident and I urge any witnesses to get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
