A man has appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court today (August 4) charged with the murder of a 44-year-old from Knaresborough.
Oktay Kilic was charged with murder in the early hours of this morning after Mark Leslie John Berney was discovered with fatal stab wounds in a car at Whipley Bank, near Ripley.
Kilic, 40, of Kent Drive, Harrogate, spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and that he understood the charges against him.
No application for bail was made and the case was adjourned until Friday at Leeds Crown Court, where Kilic will appear via video link from HMP Hull.
Kilic, wearing a blue jumper and grey jogging bottoms and accompanied by two security guards, sat expressionless through the proceedings with his arms folded.
Mr Berney was discovered at 9.30pm on Sunday and officers then sealed off the B6165 at Whipley Bank.
Earlier this week, a statement from North Yorkshire Police, read: “At this time we are not looking for another person or anticipate further arrests in connection with the case.”
