The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on April 21:

Gary Anthony Jackson, 27, of 13 Newby Crescent, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for causing £200 of damage to a window belonging to Harrogate Borough Council at Avondale, 29-33 Belmont Road, Harrogate, and for resisting a police officer. He was ordered to pay compensation of £150 and carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.

Samantha Louise Smith, 29, of The Manor House, Barwick Road, Garforth, was fined £120 for driving while under the influence of alcohol on Skipton Road, Harrogate. She was disqualified from driving for 40 months, to be reduced by 40 weeks on completion of an approved course, and was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20. No separate penalty was imposed for failing to surrender to custody.

Clifford Daniel McDermid, 38, of 22 Cawthorne Avenue, Harrogate, was given a 12-week prison sentence for carrying a pair of scissors in a public place. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80. A further two-week prison sentence was imposed for failing to comply with the supervision requirements following a previous period of imprisonment. No further penalty was given for failing to surrender to custody, and no compensation was ordered for a charge of stealing a crate of Stella Artois worth £8.50 from the Co-op in Crab Lane, Harrogate.

Benjamin James Swainsbury, 33, of the YMCA Residential Centre, St Rumbold Street, Lincoln, was given a two-year community order for assaulting a woman in Harrogate by beating her, and failing to surrender to custody, while subject to a previous conditional discharge. He was given a one-month curfew and made subject to a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60.

Brad-Lee Barber, 19, of 49 Racecourse Mews, Thirsk, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing a soft drink from Rumbling Tums in Thirsk. He was ordered to pay compensation of £3 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Andrew Mark Stevens, 36, of 67E High Street, Starbeck, was given a one-month curfew for assaulting a man in The Avenue, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on April 19:

Josh Dean Wilson, 26, of no fixed address, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for possession of diamorphine. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and magistrates instructed that the drug be forfeited and destroyed.

Jonathan Peter Newbould, 56, of 43 Albany Avenue, Harrogate, was given a two-year community order for assaulting a woman by beating her. He was instructed to complete a Building Better Relationships programme and was made subject to a restraining order, preventing him from contacting the victim. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay compensation of £100 and a victim surcharge of £60.
