Crime figures released

CRIME statistics for North Yorkshire and York show a rise in sex and drug offences, but a reduction in burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

The latest figures compiled by the Home Office show that overall crime fell marginally between April and June, with 41,605 crimes recorded in the past quarter, down by 243 (or 0.58 per cent) from the previous quarter.

Burglary was down by 3.38 per cent, with robbery reduced by 4.61 per cent and vehicle crime down 13.06 per cent.

Sex offences rose by 4.55 per cent - some being historical offences - and drug offences by 19.65 per cent.
