POLICE in Harrogate are still trying to trace a violent passenger who attacked a bus driver on route to South Stainley.

Officers have released CCTV footage of the man suspected of carrying out the attack aboard the 36 bus from Harrogate to Ripon on Friday January 31.

The attack happened outside the Red Lion at around 2.30pm when a man punched the driver several times in the face before getting off the bus.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Harrogate, was not seriously hurt during the assault but he suffered bruising and reddening to his face.

PC Yvonne Lofthouse, of Harrogate police, said: “This was an unacceptable, unprovoked assault on a man going about his job.

“The CCTV still that we have released clearly shows the suspect and I am hoping that someone will recognise him and help us to identify him.”
