Body of man found in Ripon canal by member of public as police appeal to find next of kin
North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the body of a man was discovered in the Ripon canal on Sunday morning.
Officers were called to Boroughbridge Road in Ripon at 8.41am on September 13 after a member of the public reported finding a body in the water.
Emergency services attended the scene and recovered the body of a man believed to be in his 60s.
A police cordon was put in place while officers and investigators carried out enquiries, with Boroughbridge Road remaining closed for much of the morning before reopening later in the day.

North Yorkshire Police say there is currently nothing to indicate that the death is being treated as suspicious.
A file will now be prepared for the coroner, who will establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
A spokesperson at North Yorkshire Police said: “Urgent enquiries are currently ongoing to identify and locate the man's next of kin, who we believe may not be in North Yorkshire.”
Anyone with information that could assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
