Police have condemned an arson attack which has destroyed a picnic bench at a children’s play area in Harrogate.
The picnic bench, at the children’s play area at Barberry Close, was completely melted in the blaze.
PC Karl May said: “This incident is an attack on the local community and posed a real danger to the nearby changing rooms which, thankfully, escaped damage.
“From our inquiries so far, which are being supported by Harrogate Borough Council, it is strongly suspected that an accelerant was used to set fire to the picnic bench.
“I am appealing to anyone with information that could help catch those responsible to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Police believe the incident occurred between 12am on Monday July 30 July and 1pm on Wednesday August 2.
Anyone who can help the investigation is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, asking for PC Karl May.
Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
