A community football team managed by Harrogate Town star Chib Chilaka are celebrating after being named champions at a tournament held in Doncaster.

The Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI) team came together in 2011 as a way of supporting people who are turning their lives around after sufffering from addiction.

CRI Harrogate has worked with the Harrogate Town Community Foundation(HTCF), who were awarded a grant by the Football Conference, and announced they have found jobs for several members of the team. They won all six games and conceded just twice as they marched towards the win.

Chilaka said: “The tournament in Doncaster was an affirmation of just how far the group have come and watching them compete against other teams showed a culmination of the principles we work on during our sessions.”

HTCF chairman and club Director Tad Nowakowski said: “This is a fantastic achievement for some of these individuals to obtain, and in some cases, regain employment.”
