Hampsthwaite, Clint and Burnt Yates
Hampsthwaite Film Night: if you fancy a good sing Grease is being shown at the Memorial Hall on Saturday, February 9 at 7.30pm. Hot dogs will be served in the intermission. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children under 16.
Hampsthwaite Parish Council: the next meeting is on Monday, February 11 at 7.30pm at the Village Room in Hampsthwaite.
Burnt Yates School News: transport is the theme for this term and the juniors have begun their Airfix building project as part of their design technology, art and history subjects. It is hoped to result in a wonderful display of all things transport. By the time this is published the children will hopefully have enjoyed a trip to National Railway Museum in York. Fingers crossed the bad weather of January is behind us for the school was closed on the Monday when the snow was at its worst. But somehow I think the children rather enjoyed the day off and the chance to make snowmen and igloos and go sledging. The children will be celebrating the Chinese New Year with a meal on Tuesday, February 12.
Hampsthwaite Show: the first meeting of the Hampsthwaite Show Committee will take place on Tuesday, February 12 at 7.30pm. If anyone thinks they can help in whatever capacity, either in advance or on the day, the chairman Paul Hatherley would be delighted to hear from you. He can be contacted on 771904.
Countryside Alert: thank you to Val Blackburn for sending me an update from Sgt Widdowson. He has warned that in rural areas there appear to be a couple of distinct teams active at night. The first is committing burglary to steal high value cars and the other is targeting farms and businesses for quad bikes, machinery and plant. There has also been an increase in the theft of domestic heating oil. As ever, the byword is to keep alert and report anything which looks suspicious.
