A car caught fire on Skipton Road in Harrogate this afternoon.

A crew from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze at 1.18pm.

The Vauxhall Corsa was on fire near the Empress Roundabout, at the Claro Road junction.

The male driver of the car escaped called emergency services, and no injuries were reported, and it is unclear if other passengers were in the car at the time.

A fire service spokesperson said the Corsa suffered 40 per cent fire damage to its engine compartment.

Traffic has now returned to normal at the junction following disruption as the flames were extinguished.
