Ticket machine installed at last at Harrogate railway station

A NEW ticket machine is set to be installed at Harrogate Station to allow rail passengers to collect pre-booked tickets.
It follows a campaign by Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Harrogate Borough Council and Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, for Northern Rail to provide the facility.
The campaign intensified after a direct service between Harrogate and Kings Cross was introduced last May, after a long campaign by Harrogate Council and local businesses, led by chamber chief executive Brian Dunsby.
Now, anyone who has booked tickets online from any train operator can collect them from the new machine in the station, saving significant amounts on the cost of same-day tickets.
Drew Haley, stakeholder relations manager at Northern Rail, said: “We have done this as Harrogate has a good call for tickets on departure and this is the first Northern station to get the new machine.”
Council leader Don Mackenzie welcomed the news and said it was a small step towards bringing rail standards in Harrogate up to those in other towns.
