A Harrogate businessman has unveiled his latest venture, which he hopes will tap into the growing market for male grooming.

David Steca already has five walk-in barber shops, but the new premises, at 6 Princes Square in Harrogate, sees his brand go upmarket.

Steca No 6 still offers men’s haircuts, but with optional hot-towel shaves, and its treatment rooms provide facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and even massages – with complimentary drinks.

“When I started out 27 years ago there weren’t really many nice barbers around, but there are quite a few now, so this really differentiates us from the competition,” said Mr Steca, who also has shops in Knaresborough, Ripon, Leeds and Otley.

“The architecture is beautiful, and this end of town isn’t really well-served for what we’re trying to do. We’re targeting a market who want – or need – to make an appointment, and we’re hoping to attract wedding parties, for example, who can come here, get a shave and a massage before the big day, and maybe a drink too. I don’t know of anywhere else outside of Leeds that’s doing this kind of thing.”
