Rigby & Peller - the monarch’s closest “supporter” - is coming to Harrogate.

The lingerie company which holds the Royal Warrant is opening their first boutique in the North of England on Station Bridge in Harrogate.

Company chairman Dirk De Vos said: “We have listened to demand from our customers to open in the North and are thrilled to have found the perfect location in the beautiful town of Harrogate.”

“It is an exciting time for the business as we celebrate 75 years in the lingerie industry.

The world renowned lingerie retailer opened it’s first store in London in 1939.

In 1960 the Royal Warrant was granted to Rigby & Peller by HM. Queen Elizabeth II and in 1982 June Kenton became Grantee of the Royal Warrant as Corsetiere to HM. Queen Elizabeth II.

Mrs Kenton recently gave a talk at the Salt Mills in Bradford, she said: “There was a standing ovation from the audience when I announced we were planning to open a Rigby & Peller up North.

“We are proud to introduce the skills and expertise of our world famous lingerie stylists to the ladies of Harrogate.”

Each member of staff undergoes several months of training in lingerie fitting and they never use a tape measure, relying on their expert eye instead.

The large 1,500 square feet shop will be in the former Sony Centre store at 1 - 2 Station Bridge and aims to open around January 18 to 20.

Tom Limbert, Partner at Central Retail Chartered Surveyors said: “The decision by Rigby & Peller to open in Harrogate underlines the town’s reputation for being a priority location in the North of England for the premium retail brands.”
