Weeks of waiting come to an end today as we finally reveal the shortlists for the Harrogate Advertiser Series Business Awards.

Having sifted through sackfuls of entries and deliberated for two intense days earlier this month, the judges shortlisted 34 companies and individuals in the nine open award categories.

Jean MacQuarrie, editor of the Harrogate Advertiser Series, said the standard of entries had been as high as ever.

“We all know there are some brilliant companies out there, but it’s not until you hear at first hand about their achievements that you really appreciate how much talent there actually is in our business community,” she said.

“This region is also incredibly varied, and that diversity is reflected in these shortlists; they include all kinds of companies, from medical equipment suppliers to second-hand van dealers – with tech companies, hotels, breweries and even a vineyard thrown in for good measure!

“I’d like to thank the judges from all the individual category sponsors for taking so much care during the decision-making process, and perhaps most especially Steve Archer and Matthew Stamford, who are directors at our main sponsor, estate agent Verity Frearson. We first benefited from their input four years ago, and they continue to bring great judgement to the process.

“We’re all very much looking forward to the awards ceremony next month, which promises to be as entertaining as ever.”

The black-tie event – to be held on Thursday, April 14 at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate – is one of the highlights of the region’s business calendar and attracts the cream of the region’s business talent.

This year, the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Barry Dodd CBE, will be the principal guest. Other VIPs include the leader of North Yorkshire County Council, Coun Carl Les; the leader and chief executive of Harrogate Borough Council, Coun Richard Cooper and Wallace Sampson respectively; and the Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Nigel Simms.

Tickets for the Business Awards ceremony cost £55+VAT and can be bought by contacting Sarah Lister at sarah.lister@jpress.co.uk or calling 01422 260293.
