The owner of two nurseries in the Wetherby area is to open a third in Knaresborough.

Jill Johnson hopes to create more than 40 new jobs in the town with the opening of Twinkles (Knaresborough) Ltd.

The new nursery will be based on Manse Lane and have capacity for 92 children aged from six weeks to five years.

Jill, 37, said: “We’re very excited about the expansion. We work with families from North Yorkshire who travel in to us in Wetherby and have been looking to expand, but finding the right area has been challenging.

“There is a great deal of pride in opening a new facility that offers both essential family services to the local community while creating a not insignificant amount of jobs for local people.”

A former primary school teacher, Jill opened her first nursery in Leeds in 2001 after being unable to find a setting she was confident with for her daughter. She went on to open a 78-place nursery in Boston Spa in 2003 and one in Wetherby for 89 children in 2008, both of which she still owns.

Twinkles (Knaresborough) opens on September 3, and will incorporate some new ideas aimed at saving parents time and money, such as a dry cleaning and washing service, as well as a facility where parents can buy basics such as nappies and milk and have them added to their nursery bill.

Jill, who lives in Scarcroft, added: “It is vital to deliver outstanding childcare support for families who, in this economic climate, do not have the luxury of not working if they have a job.”
