The Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate has scooped a national business award less than a year after it opened.

The £11m YEC, based at the Great Yorkshire Showground, won ‘Best Venue Under 8,000 sq m’ at the Exhibition News Awards in London, beating a shortlist that included the Business Design Centre in London, the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and the Titanic Exhibition Centre in Belfast.

Heather Parry, managing director of YEC Ltd, said: “This is a fantastic win for Yorkshire, reinforcing how important this region is to the UK events industry.”

Investment at the YEC has created an impressive entrance hall, a dedicated seminar room, 4G coverage, a suite of organisers’ offices as well as two cafés.

Speaking of the YEC’s win, Exhibition News editor Annie Byrne said: “They were up against some was stiff competition, but due to YEC demonstrating commitment to the industry, through investment in infrastructure and the building of a dedicated, customer-focused team, the independent panel of judges said there was a clear winner. Fantastic win for the team and very well deserved.”
