Elmet & Rothwell MP Alec Shelbrooke braved the icy waters of Lake Windermere with his wife Susan on Sunday to take part in the Great North Swim.

Mr Shelbrooke and his wife completed the one mile swim around England’s largest lake in just under 1hr30min. The couple were raising money for Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa; a hospice for special children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.

Mr Shelbrooke said: “It wasn’t easy! But the challenge was nothing compared to that faced by the children and families at Martin House. It was absolutely freezing but a good experience and one I’d happily do again”
