Market report – Butchers support Pateley’s Xmas sale

Pateley Bridge butchers bought up the three top cattle on show at Pateley auction mart’s Christmas show on Saturday, November 24.

The supreme champion beef animal, shown by B S Simpson of Heathfield, was purchased by Kendals Butchers of Pateley Bridge for £2000 while the reserve champion from JA Stoney and son of Bewerley was sold to H Weatherhead and sons of Pateley Bridge for £2500. Weatherheads also took Stoney’s second prize heifer for £1600. Second prize steer was shown by G Taylor of Sawley sold to M Etherington of Rawden

In the over 30 month animals the first prize beef cow was shown by JW Stockdale and son of Burnsal, and the dairy cow first prize winner was J Burton and son of Fellbeck.

There was an excellent show of prime sheep, with S Poulter of Winksley being awarded the championship with his Texel lambs selling to David Kirby of Bishop Thornton for £140, who also took second prize lambs from P and N Tattersal Ellerton York, and 3rd prize from M Chandler of Dallowgill. The young handlers competition for school age and under first and second went to Evie Church, and third prize was presented to the Graham sisters, all from Lofthouse. Judged by Marley’s Butchers of Ripon.
