ONE of Harrogate’s department stores will be given a multi-million pound make-over in the new year.
Debenhams is investing in its Harrogate store and will introduce new features and more designer names - as well as creating 50 new permanent jobs.
The shop is one of 20 nationally to be given a make-over by the retailer next year.
Michael Sharp, chief executive of Debenhams, said: “This is a strong signal that the UK high street is alive and well and we are backing it 100 per cent.
“It’s great news for job seekers as well as shoppers across the country. It also shows a very real commitment to our clear focus on growing our UK retail business.
“A mix of refurbishment, new brands and the addition of extra top designer and beauty brands deliver what effectively looks like a new store following a modernisation.”
The announcement comes as Debenhams reveals strong year-end results, showing group sales up by 4.5 per cent and progits up for the third year running to more than £166m.
