Marks and Spencer has confirmed it is still interested in opening its planned new Simply Food store on Leeds Road in Harrogate.
The company had first announced its ambitious plans in June last year, but there has been much speculation in the months since after it’s preferred site for the new store switched hands.
The old Nidd Vale site on Leeds Road is now operating as Bristol Street Motors after the company went into administration in December.
It’s new owners, Gateshead-based Vertu PLC, have revealed plans to vacate the site and move to Knaresborough but the whole scheme is now reliant on plans being approved.
Harrogate Borough Council’s planning committee is set to scrutinise these for approval on Tuesday, April 16.
When asked by the Advertiser this week, Marks and Spencer would not comment further on its own plans, other than to say it was still interested in going ahead with the new development.
“We do still have an interest in a new store on Leeds Road, Harrogate, but cannot confirm our plans at the moment,” a spokesman said.
