A thriving Post Office on Leeds Road in Harrogate is to be transformed into a new main-style branch with longer opening hours.
The Oatlands Mount Post Office on Leeds Road is now set to become an open-plan branch as part of the Post Office’s plan to modernise the network.
The store will close for refurbishment from today, September 19, reopening on Monday with three serving positions including one at a retail counter.
Post Office regional network manager for central England Adrian Wales said: “We understand how important the Post Office is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
Mr Wales said this investment from the Post Office, with more than 11,500 branches in the UK, signalled a commitment to no more branch closures.
“This modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around half of the Post Office network converting to new-style branches and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes,” he said.
The full changes will see two screened serving positions brought in, as well as a Post Office serving point at the retail counter. Similar changes introduced to the Cold Bath Road Post Office in August. Opening hours will also be extended by three hours every week, with the refurbished branch to open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
