Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has revealed plans to open an Italian restaurant in Harrogate by 2014.

Plans to open a two-storey restaurant on the site of Multiyork, on Parliament Street, have been submitted to Harrogate Borough Council.

Harrogate-based Lateral Property Group hope to start work in May 2013, with doors opening to the first diners by Easter 2014.

It is hoped the restaurant could create a substantial number of jobs.

Lateral’s Managing Director Philip Lunn said: “Jamie’s is a real coup for Harrogate. We have worked for a number of years on initiatives to strengthen Parliament Street and this letting is an endorsement of its position as one of the town’s prime retail, leisure and restaurant destinations.

“Located between Betty’s and the Royal Baths, Jamie’s is great news for our local economy and will provide a welcome addition to the town’s retail and leisure tourism offer.”

Lateral developed Jamie’s restaurant at Lendal Cellars in York, which opened last year.

The company has signed an Agreement to Lease with Jamie Oliver to develop the Harrogate unit.

If the application is given the go-ahead, Lateral plans to relocate its Harrogate office to office space above the new restaurant.

Harrogate would join 30 other UK towns and cities in having a Jamie’s Italian. The chef also operates in Dubai, St Petersburg and Sydney.
