Harrogate’s Habitat store to be put into administration

THE Harrogate branch of Habitat will be put into administration in a deal to sell the troubled furniture chain.

Home Retail Group, owner of Argos and Homebase, will buy the Habitat brand and three central London stores for £24.5m in cash the BBC reports.

Habitat has appointed administrators for its other 30 outlets, including Harrogate, which will continue trading for now.

HRG said it will keep 150 staff at its London stores and “brand support” which includes Habitat’s furniture designers.

The future of its other 750 employees remains uncertain.
