The accolade marks out 34-year-old Joseph Ferraro, who has two salons in the town, as one of the UK’s top stylists, having been a finalist almost every year since 2010.

“This is the fifth time lucky for me and to be finally crowned North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year is just fantastic,” said the Australian-born father-of-one.

“I have worked incredibly hard over the years to get to this position – and been supported by my brilliant team at Joseph Ferraro Hair, as well as my wonderful wife Lesley.”

The British Hairdressing Awards, recognised as the Oscars of the industry, have launched the careers of many household names, including Nicky Clarke and John Frieda.

The award ceremony was hosted by actor David Walliams, alongside Hairdressers Journal International’s executive director Jayne Lewis-Orr.

She said: “This award cements Joseph as the North Eastern region’s leading hair talent. But a win doesn’t just mean you’re the very best in the area, it also marks you out as one of the greatest stylists in the country.

“This win positions you as an expert and puts Harrogate on the map too.”
