Ashville College has appointed Harrogate construction company HACS Group to undertake the enabling works for a major investment in its sporting facilities.

The independent school is spending £750,000 on a new synthetic all-weather pitch, which will be completed ahead of the new academic year in September.

For their part in the project, the HACS team will have to move more than 14,000 tonnes of earth to ensure there is a level platform for the pitch to be laid on.

The construction and civil engineering company is also improving the drainage, creating access paths and landscaping the areaSs surrounding the new multi-purpose pitch.

Mark Smith, HACS managing director, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Ashville College for this important project, which is the second artificial playing surface scheme we have worked on.

“Our work is in two phases. The first, the ‘cut and fill’, is seeing us moving 7,000 cubic metres of earth to create a level platform for the pitch to sit on. Once completed, we then hand over the site to the contractors to lay the surface.

“When they have finished, we then come back to ensure everything is ready for the start of the school in September. A big part of this is landscaping. ”

The predominant use of the new artificial pitch, which is next to the 1st XV rugby pitch, will be for hockey and tennis school fixtures, as well as matches up to, and including, county level.
