One of Harrogate’s top hair salons has expanded into Ripon and is looking to recruit locally.

Baroque Hair, which employs 21 people at its Kings Road salon in central Harrogate, will open the doors on its latest venture tomorrow (Friday).

The business is owned by Terry Sowerby and Tom O’Brien, who said he was excited about becoming part of the Ripon community.

“I worked over here in Ripon nearly 20 years ago when I first got into the industry. Ripon is full of wonderful independent shops and individual concepts – it’s a perfect partnership for Baroque,” he said.

The salon is in the former premises of Monty’s nightclub, which Baroque acquired last year and has since transformed. It will initially run with a skeleton staff of three stylists and a colour technician, but the business plans to recruit more staff from Ripon and the surrounding area.

Mr O’Brien added: “This is the first time we have replicated Baroque’s business formula, but after seven years we now feel strong enough and established enough to push it out there further.

“If all goes well with Ripon then within the next few years we are looking at possibly building Baroque into four or five salons, hopefully covering some key areas of North Yorkshire.”
