Members of the 3rd Harrogate Boys’ Brigade and 1st Harrogate Girls’ Brigade took part in the Yorkshire County Battalion Uniformed Competitions.

They were competing against brigade companies from across Yorkshire.

After the success of last year, there was a lot of pressure to prove it wasn’t a one time event.

The challenge to the young people was to give up yet more time in their already very busy lives, and that is what they did.

The standard this year was very high but the squad achieved 1st place in the advanced drill, and is now the proud holder of the Battalion and Queen’s Colours for another year.

For the first time in around a decade the brigade took juniors to the competitions where they entered figure marching, the general knowledge quiz and the Christian faith competition.

The company and senior sections also learnt passages about Gideon and Blind Bartimaeus for the Christian faith competition. The competition also included a project and for the seniors. This took the form of a comic book which was designed to tell the story of Gideon to young people and the company boys had to create a 3D model of the story of Blind Bartimaeus.

A spokesman said: “The hard work and commitment of our young people paid off and they certainly did us proud on the day.

“Our full results were: 2nd in the junior bible project, 1st in the junior bible quiz, 1st in the junior Christian faith competition overall, 3rd in the company section bible quiz, 3rd in the senior bible project, 2nd in the senior bible quiz, 2nd in the senior Christian faith competition overall, 2nd in the senior general knowledge and 1 st place in advanced drill

“Overall it was a brilliant day for the boys and girls.”
