School News: parents of children from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School will have the opportunity in December to spend the day in school, working with their children completing seasonal crafts and gifts in a craft workshop

Christmas Fair: the parish Christmas Fair will be held in St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School after the 10am Sunday Mass on December 1.

Bishop Thornton CE School: had a visit from the fire brigade, when they were given a presentation about bonfire night fire safety as well as fire safety in the home.

Stay and Play: Bishop Thornton CE School held an informal `stay and play’ for children age three or four years to come and access the exciting learning environment in Class 1, whilst the parents and carers had tea and coffee. The school is hoping to hold some more of these sessions before the children start in September 2014.

Gardening Club: this is the last for 2013 for Warsill Gardening club until the 2014 programme starts. Bob Forbes will give an inspirational flower arranging demo, Baubles and Blooms 7.30pm start, tickets £5.

Congratulations: to Pat, Barbara and Duncan Harrogate Borough Tenants and Leaseholders who achieved a Level 2 Open College Certificate in the Tenants Involvement Programme A, provided by Leeds Tenants Federation.

Ladies Shopping: why not do your Christmas shopping early and enjoy a glass of fizz and nibbles? Come and buy clothes, jewellery, gifts, handbags, cards, wrapping paper, Christmas items and decorations, candles, soap, books and toys and more. Organised by the Friends of Ripley on Thursday, November 21 7pm in the Hotel De Ville. Ripley its not too far to travel, tickets are £6, speak to Sam Ryder on 07977494781.

New Officer: Amanda Peacock will be the First World War Heritage Information officer at the AONB office in Pateley Bridges. There is to be a three year Heritage Lottery funded project called Nidderdale AONB and the First World War. This is supported by Friends of Nidderdale ANOB, focussing on the impact of the war on the landscape and communities of Nidderdale. It will also references the story of the Leeds Pals who trained in the area. A programme of events and volunteer-based activities is planned for both Leeds and Nidderdale over the next three years.
