Induction: the church warden and parochial church council of the United Benefice of Bishop Thornton, Burnt Yates, Markington, Ripley and South Stainley are pleased to announce that the institution by James, Bishop of Knaresborough and the induction by Nicholas, acting Archdeacon of Richmond of Rev Paul Harford as Vicar of the United Benefice will take place on Tuesday, October 15 at 7.30pm in the the Church of St Andrew, Burnt Yates followed be a reception in the school. All parishioners are warmly invited but places will be limited, please indicate your wish to attend to your churchwardens.

Garden Club: Thursday, October 17 in Warsill Parish Hall 7.30pm, An evening with Joe Maiden a chance to put your questions to the master gardener. Members £2, guests £4.

School News:Bishop Thornton CE Primary School children won the swimming gala at Ripon Spa Baths where 11 schools took part (including the big Ripon Primary school). For a very small school to be the overall winner is a massive achievement congratulations to all the children. The theme this year was The Tour de Frances, the supporters waved the flags that they had designed to cheer the swimmers on.

Invite: Years 5 and 6 children form Bishop Thornton Primary School who are not at Robinwood, have been invited to Nidderdale High School Pateley Bridges for a day of activities on October 10.

Art Gallery: the children form Bishop Thornton Primary School have come back to school with some exciting ideas of how they could plan and develop their own sculptures using different materials, after the visit to Leeds Art Gallery looking at art and sculptures on display. The work this term includes looking at artistic styles of Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh and Lowry, as well as sculpture. It also served as a stimulus for creative writing as they had previously read the story of the Secret Dancer.

Coffee Morning: the fantastic sum of £96.50p was raised at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School for Macmillan Cancer Support. Both classes helped to bake cakes and muffin to sell, and the juniors helped serve them to visitors. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.

Bags 2 School: if you having a sort out of your old summer clothing, bags, shoes, belts and maybe bedding ready for the winter months, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School’s next collection is on Friday, November 8 at 9am prompt. Do not take them to the school in advance due to lack of storage space. Of the money raised last time 10 per cent went towards the summer building and improvements work .
