Fashion Show: there maybe some tickets costing £10 left for the fashion show to be held in Markinton Institute on Friday at 7.30pm in aid of Saint Michaels Hospice and Markington War Memorial Fund.

Bishop Thornton and Shaw Mills Women Institute: at their AGM members were very pleased to welcome four new member to their group. Annual reports were given from the president, secretary and treasurer and showed a very healthy and productive year .Members were thanked for all their efforts and assistance at various events. The election of officers was passed with the same people being asked to stand again and these were accepted. Other members volunteered support throughout the next year. Programme ideas were put forward and discussed and the programme secretary will organise the forthcoming year. The recent visits to two quiz nights were reported on. Members had a good time at Killinghall for the NYW quiz, also members were very pleased with the Nidd Valley Quiz that they hosted at Ripley Town Hall, and they received some lovely compliments from their visitors. This year is 65 anniversary of Bishop Thornton and Shaw Mills WI and members will be celebrating at Rudding Park with a food and flicks evening. An invitation to join Follifoot WI at their Christmas party and with this being so popular nearly everyone will be attending for a fun evening and entertainment with a buffet supper. The evening ended with the traditional compertition. The subject was a photograph of a snow scene and there were some stunning items. Finally there was time for tea and cakes and plenty of opportunity to chat with the warm and friendly group of women with many interests. Members book club is also thriving, they will be discussing One Dam Thing after Another by Jodi Taylor, it’s a fast read and quite different, being about time travel, if you would like to try it, please contact Jenny on 01765 620085. Bean Bags: Bishop Thornton Primary School would like to say a big thank you to the parents and teachers association for providing Class 1 with new bean bags and stools to use in the library. The children are already enjoying them and they certainly are encouraging more quiet reading in the library!

Children in Need: donations of £1 from children from Bishop Thornton Primary School for Children in Need, they can come to school in whacky bottoms.
