St Joseph’s RC School News: KS2 children in their summer term were involved in an art project with Mrs Lambert. They worked together to design and make a joint picture based on the music by Mussorgsky. The school picture is around 1.7m x 1m and is based on Victor Hartmann’s design for the The Great Gate of Kiev. The project was a part of The Children’s Art Show. An exhibition of pictures will be on show in RIpon Cathedral from October 15-28. The organisers will endeavour to display as many of the pictures from the selection as possible, but it may not be possible to exhibit every picture although all the pictures will be shown on a DVD loop during the exhibition. There will be a performance of an organ arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at the Exhibition played by Edmund Aldhouse on Thursday, October 25 from 1.15-2pm. The school will be closed for teacher training on on Monday, November 5. Children took part again in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, Shoebox Appeal. They gave some toys and small gifts for inside the boxes, which will be distributed to children who are less fortunate in different parts of the world. Postal day in order for these boxes to be shipped out in time for Christmas is Friday, November 9. This year CAFOD project focussed on access to food and how to control the world staple foods by trans-national corporations is having a devastating effect on the world poorest people. The harvest message for the children was to think how food can be shared within the global family by inviting them to ‘make a place at the table’. The children participated in the Diocese of Leeds Primary School Hunger Cloth Project by decorating a square of cloth with an image of their choice to represent sharing of God’s gift. The children chose to use the image of the Last Supper and sharing of the bread and wine. The place mat’ squares were put together by Diocese and dedicated at St Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds.
