Handel’s Messiah: come and sing at this popular annual event on Sunday, November 24. Musicians and soloists have already been confirmed for the 2013 Nidderdale Messiah, which this year will take place at Holy Trinity Church, Knaresborough. The conductor will once again be local musician and choral director David Andrews. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Nidderdale Messiah and the chosen charity will be the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This independant charity provides a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5m people across Yorkshire. They fly seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape including rural and isolated locations. All monies raised from ticket sales and donations will go to the charity to help them in their work in the local area. The conductor, soloists and musicians are all waiving their fees to help this good cause. The singers’ rehearsal starts at 1pm and, after a short break for refreshments, the performance will start at 3.30pm. If you enjoy a good sing or would just like to listen to a resounding local performance of Handel’s Messiah, please help us to make this tenth anniversary performance the best yet and raise the roof for our charity. Three Peaks Challenge: a big ‘thank you’ to all who sponsored me on the Three Peaks Challenge, Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside to be completed in a time limit of 12 hours, which I undertook at the end of July. As some of you may know I completed it in 10 hours seven minutes and through the generosity of those who sponsored me as I managed to raise the substantial total of £714 which, after gift aid, provides a total benefit of £825.20 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. Once again, thanks!
Harvest Festival: our service will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 26, and this will be followed by a supper in the church hall. We are hoping to be able to welcome some of the Gipton Church congregation to join in the evening. The following Sunday’s service (11am September 29) will have Harvest as its theme. The harvest gifts will be distributed on the Monday following, September 30 and any help in preparing for this will be most welcome at 9.30am in the Church.

Church Hall Floor: once again, a huge thank you is due to John and Brenda Dawson for the wonderful job they have done in cleaning and polishing the church hall floor. It looks fantastic, but we know that a great deal of time and hard work go into achieving such a wonderful result. Thank you so very much both of you. Also a big thank you to them for all the hard work they do throughout the year in hiring out the hall - not an easy task, and very time consuming
