Harvest Festival: this much loved service will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 26 and will be followed by a supper in the church hall. We are hoping to be able to welcome some of the Gipton Church congregation to join in the evening. Those wishing to come to the supper are asked to sign up on the appropriate list at the back of church. The cost this year will be £5 for adults and £4 for children. Any offers of help should be made to Louise Garnett on 01423 771585 or Ann Harriss on 01423 770436. Proceeds for church funds. The following Sunday’s service (11am, September 29) will have harvest as its theme. The harvest gifts will be distributed on the Monday following, September 30, and any help in preparing for this will be most welcome at 9.30am in the church.
Commemorative Supper Concert: this is to pay tribute to Kate Clarkson and Ian Paxton on Saturday, September 14 at 7 for 7.15pm. There will be an autumn serenade performed by Jill Turner (mezzo-soprano, well known to Nidderdale Messiah audiences), Barbara Tune (violin), Charles Edmonson (piano) and Phil Wilby (organ). The programme will include a varied selection of music to suit all tastes and will be interspersed with a three-course supper. Tickets are £12, (£6 children) which includes the concert, supper and a welcome drink and you can get them from John Mitchell on 01423 770412, Sarah Warnes on 01423 780337 or Rachael Harris on 01423 781336. This event is in support of the Birstwith Church Bells Appeal Fund.
Harvest Decorating in Church: I’m asking for help once again on Thursday, September 26 from 9.30am onwards. This festival includes flowers, fruit, vegetables and produce. So no one can use the excuse that they cannot arrange flowers. Plenty of help is required to display all the harvest gifts particularly the vast array of items brought by the children from Birstwith School. Please come along and join in, you will be made most welcome. Any gifts of produce, vegetables, berries, greenery etc would be most appreciated. The usual diagram will be placed at the back of the church a little nearer the time if you would like to put your name against a certain area or give Jenni Worsnop a call on 01423 770654 if you would like further information.
Poppy Appeal: this will run from Saturday, October 26 until Remembrance Sunday on November 10. Poppies will be on sale throughout this period at Birstwith Post Office, The Station, Birstwith Primary School and Belmont Grosvenor School. House to house collections will be made between Saturday, October 26 and Saturday, November 9. To Gift Aid your donation please ask for one of the special envelopes. In addition to standard poppies, wrist bands, bracelets and enamel pins a limited number of car poppies, large double poppies and small wooden crosses and wreaths will also be available. Please contact Adrian Dixon on 01423 770116 for details or to help with the house to house collection.
