Bilton Community Centre: at the recent AGM chairman, Barry Jeffrey, reported that there had been a total of 472 bookings during the year, a slight increase on the previous year. Events organised directly by the community centre committee included quiz nights, an open day, coach outings, bingo and big breakfasts. These are all going from strength to strength. Three new user groups were welcomed during the year bringing the number of regular user groups to 22. There was a vote of thanks from the floor to the chairman and the management committee for their tireless work throughout the year ensuring the community centre retains its warm, friendly welcome. Harrogate Stitch and Craft Group: tonight, Thursday, November 21 at Bilton Community Centre the group is holding its Christmas social. This is the last meeting of the year. For a 2014 programme of varied events, telephone Pauline on 01423 507617 or Sue, 01423 548388.

Bingo: at Bilton Community Centre, 48 Bilton Lane. The next session is on Monday, November 25. The fun starts at 2pm. Admission 30p includes refreshments. Books are 50p each. All welcome.

Bilton Men’s Forum: Dr George Ingle will give a talk with slides about Yorkshire Dales textile mills on Tuesday, November 26. The following week, December 3, Norman Hails has a slide presentation on Prague and the Danube. The season will be brought to a close with Christmas lunch at Ascot House. Meetings take place at Bilton Community Centre starting at 2pm with a cup of tea, followed by the speakers at 2.30pm. The 2014 programme commences on January 7.

Bilton Ladies Forum: on Tuesday, November 26 at Bilton Community Centre, 7.30pm Daphne Wilson will give a presentation entitled Christmas Flowers. New members are welcome. Telephone Sue on 01423 560934 for more details.

Councillors surgery: meet the councillors for Woodfield ward on Thursday, November 28 at Bilton Community Centre between 6-7pm. No appointment is necessary. If you have a problem your councillor may be able to help with, or an idea how to improve the area, then just go along.

Tagg House Ladies: the annual general meeting will take place on Friday, November 29 at Bilton Community Centre, 2.15pm. Visitors are welcome as this is good opportunity to find out more about this lively group which meets twice monthly throughout the year. Admission £1.50 includes tea and biscuits. The ladies are looking forward to a Christmas lunch in December at Ascot House. The 2014 programme will soon be available from Anne. Telephone 01423 508771 for a copy.

Book sale and coffee morning: is to take place at Dene Park Community Centre on Saturday, November 30 between 10am-noon. Everyone is welcome to come and browse the bookstalls and enjoy a coffee and cakes. This event is being run by Bilton and Woodfield Community Library which finds itself with lots of books to sell. All proceeds will be used to help the library cover its running costs. The 2A bus stops at the door. After coffee at Dene Park why not stroll up Woodfield Drive to the United Reformed Church for lunch.

Christmas Fayre: at Bilton Grange United Reformed Church on Saturday, November 30 from 11am. Admission 50p. There will be lots of stalls including fancy goods, jewellery, bric-a-brac, cakes, books and a Christmas stall. Light lunches will be served and there will be a raffle and tombola. The church is on the corner of Skipton Road and Woodfield Road.

Brigantes Lacemakers: the annual general meeting takes place on Saturday, November 30 between 10am-3.30pm at Bilton Community Centre. For further information, or to request a 2014 programme, telephone the chairman on 01377 288076.

Wesley Guild: on Tuesday, December 3 at Bilton Area Methodist Church, 7.30pm Rhoda Fraser will present Wiltshire Farm Foods – taster evening. For more information, telephone the secretary on 01423 505237.

Bilton Historical Society: the next Wednesday evening lecture is on December 4 at Bilton Community Centre at 7.30pm when Richard Willis is to give a presentation on Yorkshire’s canals and aqueducts. Admission £2 includes refreshments and a raffle ticket. Everyone is welcome.

Bilton Children’s Centre: is situated on Woodfield Road next to the school. In addition to advice and information on all aspects of parenting there are several different groups meeting regularly including Talking Tots a language support play session for children whose first language is not English, Stay and Play for the under fives where mums and dads can play with their children and meet other mums and dads, and a twins and multiple birth club. There are also courses for parents. Between November 28 and December 19, each Thursday, there is a course for parents and carers who are helping in schools or interested in doing so.
