An amateur snapper from Harrogate is in the running to secure a podium finish in a nationwide photography contest.

Andy Smith, 51, has sped through to the final 12 in Moto Foto, the annual photo-biking competition organised by the UK and Ireland’s leading motorcycle insurance brokers Carole Nash.

Moto Foto, which this year has received a record-breaking number of entries, in three categories - action, scenic/touring; and static/art.

IT analyst and keen biker Andy, who has a Yamaha FZ6, Kawasaki KLR 650 and an AJP 240, entered his picture taken in Morocco and has been shortlisted by a panel of experts.

If crowned the overall winner, Steve will win £1,000 plus a top-of-the-range Nikon D7200 digital camera worth nearly £2,000.

Finalists will also see their work featured in Carole Nash’s official 2016 calendar, which will be handed out to thousands of bike fans at the Motorcycle Live show at the NEC in Birmingham in November.

Mr Smith, said: “I’m over the moon to hear that my photo has been selected as one of the lucky 12 winners.

“I still can’t believe that my photo really will be featured in the company’s calendar.”

Carole Nash spokesman Rebecca Donohue, said: “We really loved Andy’s picture. It was extremely difficult this year in narrowing down the entries, as we had so many high calibre photos.”
