A STRIKING piece of artwork is set to be established on the Crown roundabout to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee - if sufficient funds can be raised.
Harrogate in Bloom hopes to create a wrought iron sculpture, replicating the Queen’s coronation crown, in a horticultural setting.
It needs £7,500 to create the sculpture, which would be made by Chiltondale Wrought Ironsmiths based in Summerbridge. Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce has started the fund with a cheque for £500.
Harrogate in Bloom has won every level of In Bloom awards regionally, nationally and in Europe and, if invited to enter next year’s Britain in Bloom event, would use the project in its portfolio.
A spokesman said: “It would be spectacular if we could bring home the ‘crown’ of Britain’s In Bloom awards in 2012. These awards do so much to promote our town to tourists.”
To donate, send a cheque made payable to Harrogate in Bloom to Chris Beard, 14 Woodlands Close, Harrogate, HG2 7AZ.
