100-year-old from Ouseburn enjoys celebrations

AGE CONCERN Knaresborough was delighted to host a special birthday celebration for a very special lady.

Irene Gudgeon from Great Ouseburn celebrated her 100th birthday in the new year on January 2.

To help her mark the big event, the Age Concern Day Centre at Whixley Village Hall, which Irene attends each week, made sure she had a day to remember.

The ladies from Whixley WI baked a '100' chocolate birthday cake and there was musical entertainment and singing for all Irene's friends and family members to enjoy. Irene had also received a telegram from the Queen congratulating her on her special day.

Irene continues to enjoy good health, has a determined spirit and keeps herself very busy, which is, says Michael, the key to her long life.
