Of course, not all high-end lettings belong to so-called “reluctant landlords”. Large properties are also let out when the owners are absent for prolonged stints, often to work abroad.
So, the supply side is expanding, but who are the tenants providing the demand?

But estate agents say they tend to rent properties for between £1,000 and £2,000 per calendar month (pcm). Most tenants of more expensive properties – in Harrogate and elsewhere – actually tend to be people in the process of relocating to the area.
They might be waiting for house prices to dip, or they may just not want to rush into buying a property in an area they don’t know very well.
Their cautious approach has the added benefit that they will be “chain-free” and ready to act quickly once they eventually find a dream home in their new locale.
