A HARROGATE man is set to face the fierce, snow-covered obstacle course of one of TV’s most physically challenging gameshows this weekend.

Jon Procter, a personal trainer at Rudding Park, is competing on this weekend’s edition of popular gameshow Winter Wipeout, after an old friend secretly put him forward for the programme.

Mr Procter said: “It’s the most painful thing I’ve ever done, it was absolutely mind blowing.”

Beating off the challenge of 10,000 other entrants, Mr Procter was selected for the show after the producers whittled that number down to a final 160 names.

“Every Friday I was on tenterhooks waiting for the call,” Mr Procter told the Advertiser, “Eventually I got a call saying ‘I’ve got some bad news for you ... you’re going to have to book some time off work.’”

Adding to Mr Procter’s excitement was the realisation that he would be flying out to Buenos Aires for the show, having long dreamed of visiting South America.

He said he’d been surprised by the positive attitudes of his fellow contestants given they were all competing for the same prize and was pleased to have made several new friends out of the other 19 contestants on the show he’d been on.

“Winning wasn’t even an issue for me personally,” he said, “In my life I’ve always enjoyed new challenges, meeting new people and experiencing new places.”

“The people you get to meet are all different ages and all from different backgrounds and they were really good people. One of the girls from the show even invited me to her 21st birthday party.”

Mr Procter added that he would be watching the show at a friend’s house on Saturday with all of his close family and friends gathering for the occasion.
