Puppetry, poetry, song: Ripon International Festival
LOOKING ahead to September, the Ripon International Festival gets under way with a rich selection of music, song, drama, poetry and art, not to mention street theatre, puppetry and a touch of history.
The festival, taking place from September 10 to October 2, includes performances from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, cellist Jamie Walton and pianist, Daniel Grimwood, the sounds of China from Chinese harpist Jiang Shu and fine drama in 'The Sixth Wife' written and performed by Alison Neil.
Acrobatic skills from The Black Eagles and Shaolin Kung Fu Masters, travelling theatre company Penny Plain, top jazz trumpeter Steve Waterman and Ripon Grammar School's Big Band are all lined up.
A spot of history is on offer with church tours or an historical guided walk from Hackfall Woods, Grewelthorpe whilst comedian Alex Horne brings his hit show 'Bird Watching' from the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe.
Poetry from popular female poet, Wendy Cope, who was voted Radio Four's Poetry Please choice for Poet Laureate by listeners, is making an appearance and there's a wealth of art to see in a number of exhibitions showing throughout the town.
For programmes, ring 01765 605508 or you can pick one up from town centre outlets in Ripon.
