Hit show Les Miserables is coming to Knaresbrough.

Pupils at King James’s School are putting the finishing touches to the stage version of the epic musical which has proved so popular an extra date has been added.

Around 70 students, actors, technical crew and musicians, have been working for months on the major school production. Tickets which went on sale for a three night run were snapped up in days and a fourth night has now been added.

The leading King James’s actors are supported by a talented and strong senior ensemble and chorus and band, featuring students from Years 7-13.

Les Miserables is technically the school’s most ambitious stage drama yet, with moving lights, tiered seating, scaffold and barricade constructed specially for the production.

The show opens on Tuesday February 5 and a few tickets are still available for the Tuesday performance only.

Star performances were not just limited to the theatre. Students welcomed former Great Britain Rugby League star Paul Broadbent to the school recently.

Paul spent the day at King James’s as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative. He gave a talk and ran sports activities for more than 300 pupils.

The initiative aims to raise confidence and improve the life skills of young people. As part of its special project King James’s set up a multi-sports group.

“It was clear the pupils appreciated Paul’s personal and honest stories,” said PE teacher Keiron Hall, who organised the visit.

“The key message was that all pupils can achieve by working hard and putting in that special effort when needed.”
