Harrogate schoolgirl follows The Beatles to Abbey Road

Waiting for Video...

A Harrogate Grammar School pupil recorded a song at the world famous Abbey Road Studio’s on Sunday.

Athina Cooper who is just 15-years-old, was apprached by music producer Rob Cass to record a song after he saw videos of her singing on Youtube.

The teenager recorded ‘Let You Know’, a song that has been written especially for her by Rob Cass’s team, at the studios made famous by the Beatles over 40 years ago.

Athina said: “It was really good, just amazing.

“People were queueing outside to walk across the zebra crossing and signing the wall outside the building and I was walking past them all to record my song.”

The silky voiced schoolgirl started performing when she was 10-years-old and regularly sings at open mic nights at The Blues Bar in Harrogate and has recorded songs with Harrogate based recording group Ont’Sofa.

Her mother, Angie Konstantikopoulov said: “People always tell me they dont expect to hear a voice like hers from such a baby-faced girl.

“She was brought up with soulful music like Diana Ross and The Supremes playing in the house.”

Athina has been nervous for the recording, prior to her trip to London she said: “I’m nervous because Rob Cass is quite a big deal and I want to impress him.”

It appears she was succesful in impressing him as she has been invited back to record a full demo with the respected producer.

Athina cites artists like Norah Jones and Corinne Bailey Rae as her inspiration and is considering audtitioning for BBC1’s The Voice next year when she is old enough.

“When I was 10 I auditioned for Britians Got Talent, that’s when I started taking singing seriously,” she said: “I don’t think I’d like to go on X factor though.”

The schoolgirl is currently learning to play guitar and hopes to continue studying music at Sixth Form when she leaves school next year.

Miss Konstantikopoulov is keen to keep her daughter grounded, she said: “I want her to keep studying alongside her singing.

“She’s so sweet natured and modest, I know if I had her talent my head would have swelled a bit!”
