Growing success of Festivals with an ‘s’
Harrogate International Festivals.
HARROGATE International Festivals’ growing status has been confirmed by its latest programme of events.
Notice the use of the word ‘festivals’ in the plural - for the famous Summer Festival is only one of an increasingly lengthy list of cultural events the festival team are responsible for across Harrogate and the surrounding towns and villages.
Chief excecutive Sharon Canavar said: “For many years Harrogate International Festivals has worked across the District to deliver a diverse portfolio of events and festivals to dramatically increase the cultural and tourism offer for Harrogate and the surrounding area.
“From Dj-ing to Dickens, singing to science & books to bhangra we bring internationally acclaimed artists to work with young people, communities & audiences year-round.”
Never mind events to come later in the year such as the Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, the next two months alone sees a welter of events emerging under the Harrogate International Festivals banner.

Harrogate International Festival is running a brand new programme this spring, offering young people at risk of anti-social behaviour an engaging alternative with a unique urban music and writing project.
Harrogate International Festival’s festivals and education manager, Bryony Davies, said: “Divas & DJs has a track record of tackling anti-social behaviour in Harrogate and we’re excited to be able to extend the great work it’s done in more areas of Harrogate and over a longer period through Rhymes and Crimes.
“The urban theme attracts young people who might be at risk of offending or for those who simply have limited access to engaging in exciting arts projects. ”
Rhymes and Crimes, which is running twice weekly until Friday, March 3, has been developed from the hugely successful Divas and DJs project that has taken place in Harrogate for the past five years.
The aim of this extended programme is to reach areas flagged by the Community Safety Partnership as a key area for activity.
Partners for Divas & DJs include the Youth Music Action Zone for rural North Yorkshire (NYMAZ), Harrogate District Safer Communities Partnership, Enjoy Healthy Living, Extended Schools, 4Youth Service, CYC, and North Yorkshire Police Community Support Officers.

Global Villages workshops return for February half term. Scottish folk-music workshops aimed at seven to 13-year-olds will be held in venues across North Yorkshire Monday, February 13-17.
l Harrogate International Sunday Series
Following breath-taking performances from Artur Pizarro and the Pavao String Quartet, Martin Roscoe, one of Britain’s most prolific recitalists, will present the third concert of the season at the Old Swan Hotel, with a performance on Sunday, March 19.
l Reach Out Schools Events
Author Andrew Hammond is set to enthral and excite students across Yorkshire, with a tour which will include Nidderdale High School and Ripon Grammar School on Tuesday, March 6, followed by a trip to Boroughbridge High School and Harrogate Grammar School on Wednesday, March 7.
