Gig Scene: midweek update

editorial image

There’s a feast of great acoustic music at Monteys Rock Cafe in Harrogate this Sunday night for a good cause, writes Gig Scene Editor Graham Chalmers.

Artists from the recent Mixtape CD will take over the venue to raise money for CETA, the appeal for local lad Chris and his ongoing battle with brain cancer.

It’s an early start for the event, (doors open at 6pm), with singer-songwriter James Sant headlining.

Other local acts performing include Ben Sowden, Jeremy Fowler, Dave Sowden, Jim Thistlewhite plus Wolfgang, Ben and Rio from rockers PseudoNympho.

Entry is free though donations are welcomed.

Back In The Night, Down At The Doctors, Roxette, Milk And Alcohol, She Does It Right. . .the legendary Dr Feelgood return to Ripley Town Hall courtesy of local promoters RipleyBlues this Saturday night.

The band, famously the subject of a recent film by Julien Temple, Oil City Confidential, now contain no original members, though most of this excellent band have been performing in this role for more than a decade to rave reviews.

In fact, lead singer backing Robert Kane, formerly of The Animals II and The Alligators, celebrated his 1,000th gig as the frontman of Dr Feelgood back in April 2007. Support comes from Lucy Zirins.

Film soundtrack shocker! Local hard rock band Asomvel have been asked to write a song for a soundtrack for a film starring heavy metal legend Dee Snider of Twisted Sister.

Produced by Starjack Entertainment, the movie in question is called The Calicoon and is described as a “psychological horror”. Well, what else?
