Free choir workshop to be held to encourage children to sing

A free choir workshop is to be held this Saturday for children in Harrogate.

North Yorkshire choir director, Rhiannon Gayle, whose approach to amateur choral singing has led to the success of her venture Rock up and Sing, will host a choir experience for young people at Harrogate Music Centre.

Centre director Stephen Price said he hoped it would provide an opportunity for children who enjoy singing to try it out, have fun and meet new people.

“Rhiannon has a huge amount of experience when it comes to encouraging the most reluctant and timid singers and has proved that singing in a group doesn’t have to be intimidating,” he said.

“Singing is a fantastic way to develop not only musically, but socially.

“We hope lots of children will come along to the event, which will be held as part of our regular weekly Saturday morning music centre activities.”

The workshop will run from 9.30am to 11am and although most participants are expected to be aged between 10 and 13, Mr Price said older and younger children would also be welcome to attend.
