A MASHAM hotel is set to revive the music nights that once made it famous.

The White Bear is hosting a series of music nights to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee, starting on Thursday, March 29.

Three of the UK’s best known folk artists, Ray Jackson, Doug Morter and Jerry Donahue, former members of legendary folk groups Lindisfarne, Fotheringay and Fairport Convention, will perform an acoustic set on the night.

The three musicians came together in 2009 to form The Gathering.

Sue Thomas, General Manager of the Theakston’s owned White Bear Hotel, said: “We’re very excited to be welcoming three icons of the folk scene in what promises to be a superb night of great music, the curtain raiser to our Diamond Jubilee celebrations.”

Theakston’s musical connections go back to 1981, when the folk band Lindisfarne were playing their Christmas season at Newcastle City Hall and Theakston’s sponsored the beer backstage. T&R Theakston director Simon Theakston struck up a friendship with the band’s Ray Jackson which has endured ever since.

The link led to the one-off Theakston’s Music Festival at Nostell Priory, Wakefield, in 1982 and the band featured Theakston’s bottles on an album cover.

A limited number of tickets for The Gathering priced at £15 to include supper, are available from The White Bear, Email Sue on info@thewhitebearhotel.co.uk
