A MYSTERY proposal appeared in the centre of Harrogate this week.

On Wednesday, February 29 – traditionally the day when women can propose to men – a message was pinned to the postbox at the junction of James Street and Princes Street.

It read: “SMB will U marry me?” followed by, in smaller text: “Or at least text me back?”

Emma-Louise Trotter, owner of the Bespoke Cupcake Company, spotted the message and posted a picture of it on Twitter, hoping to find out who was behind it - and whether “SMB” had said yes.

On her Twitter feed, @thebespokecakes, she said: “I’ll make the wedding cake for free if he says yes!”

Her offer was quickly followed up with more - and soon a whole wedding was coming together.

Butterfly Kisses (@ButterflyKissHG) said: “Oh wow, that’s great! And I’ll give them a wedding album for their photos too if it’s a yes!”

Zoe Kendall (zoejkendall) offered the services of the girls at PrimeTime Recruitment as bridesmaids, while Deano’s Graze and Grill (@grazeandgrill) said it would host the reception. Harrogate Preserves (@HG_Preserves) promised 25 pots of jam as wedding favours, wedding and travel magazines were put up by Claire Wooldridge (@PresentIssue) and Rachael Dunseath (@myrooskincare) said she would help the bride with a box of beauty products.

Steve Parsley (@steveparsley) said: “If you find The Post Box Proposer, my friendly wedding photograher Niki Denby says she’ll do engagement shoot.”

l All that remains is to track down the mystery couple and find out whether the proposal was accepted. If it was you, or you know who they are, email ackrill.news@ypn.co.uk or call the news desk on 01423 707 514.
