Police urge motorists to drive carefully

Police in Harrogate

Police in Harrogate

Within ten hours from midnight Thursday 29 November North Yorkshire Police dealt with 16 collisions.

The force are now urging motorists to take care on the county’s roads.

Road conditions have been made hazardous due to subzero temperatures combined with the heavy rainfall earlier in the week.

Police are asking drivers only to travel if the journey is vital and check that the route they are intending to use is accessible.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “If they do need to make the journey, drivers are asked to slow down and pay attention to the road conditions. While the roads may appear to be fine, there may be patches of ice in sheltered stretches which could catch drivers unaware.”

“While drivers are travelling we would suggest they listen to local radio for updates on the road conditions in the area.“ For details of road closures please visit www.northyorks.gov.uk/.
